Support for Carers The Neuro Therapy Centre recognises the hard work that unpaid Carers put in, and the challenges you face every day. We know that you want to do the best for the person you care for, and to achieve that it’s important that you feel happy, healthy and supported. That’s why we want to help and support you as much as we can, and make the Centre a warm and welcoming place for everyone. Take a bit of time for yourself Every day, lots of Carers come in, dropping off the people you care for, or waiting while they go for their therapy sessions. This is important ‘you’ time – perhaps you use the time for shopping or meeting friends, or perhaps you stay in the Café, have some quiet time for yourself in a comfy chair, or chat with other people who empathise with your situation. You can have a hot drink and a snack, and relax in a friendly environment. Centre Services We can support you in other ways too. If you’re a Carer Member you can access the group sessions that are held every weekday, there’s a list on this page. Our Mental Health Support services are open to Carers too – do check what’s available if you need to talk. Whatever your fitness level, you can use our gym, where our instructors can put together an exercise programme to help you maintain your physical health and strength. Social Events We hold various social events throughout the year, and Carers are welcome at all of these. It’s a great way to get to know people and have a laugh as well. There’s frequently cake too, which is an added bonus… Keep an eye on the posters in the Centre and announcements in our newsletter for details. Carers Support Organisations We can’t provide practical help with caring, but we’re always on hand if you need help and don’t know where to turn. Depending on your location, there are caring organisations which can help, and they're listed below. NEWCIS (North East Wales) Cheshire and Warrington Carers Trust Liverpool Carers Centre NEWCIS also has a ‘Bridging the Gap’ fund, which can help with financial support for Carers, so do make sure you access that if you live in Wrexham, Flintshire or Denbighshire. These organisations can help you arrange and prepare for a Carers Assessment, which will help you get the support you need. The Carer's Leave Act 2024 This one is for working Carers. This important Act came into force in April 2024, and entitles Carers to extra unpaid leave to look after their cared for person, for medical and other important appointments. The Carer's Leave Act has come about as a result of campaigning by organisations such as Carers UK, making the Government aware that there are many unpaid Carers in the UK who are also working, and supporting these Carers can have huge benefits. Not only will properly supported employees be more productive and take less unplanned unpaid leave, they are likely to stay in their jobs for longer. Carers UK has a really useful page about this - read about it here. The Government's own guidance is available on the gov.uk website. Make sure both you and your employer know what your rights are. Volunteering Perhaps you’ve got a skill that we could use here at the Centre? We’ve got a Volunteer Group that helps organise all sorts of fundraising and social activities, and we have volunteers who man our Oxygen Chamber, do odd jobs around the place, make hot drinks in the kitchen, help out with admin – whatever your talent is, we always appreciate your help! Ask at Reception or contact [email protected] if you'd like to join the Group. We want you to feel supported and welcome here. If there’s anything we can do to help, just ask.
