About us Members' stories Member with Parkinsons The physio is of great benefit to me, the staff really understand what you are going through and are able to offer excellent advice. The exercises are really helping me to manage my condition and I do the schedule of exercises recommended at home religiously as I can see what a difference it is making. All the staff at the Centre help as much as they can and they also communicate regularly with my neurologist which is very useful. If I hadn’t taken part in the therapies here I know my condition would be worse and I know that the more I help myself, the better I will be. I have formed a lot of friendships at the Centre, even though everyone has similar experiences, no one ever complains. The centre is full of positivity and visiting the Centre has become a part of our week that I look forward to. Experience of the gym and fitness suite I have been stable for a long time but new activities have encouraged me to continue to maintain my level of fitness. In the gym I like to use the Therabike, weights and have a go at boxing. I really enjoy the boxing, it has a great physical and mental affect on me. I enjoy the feeling of progress made as all my efforts are recorded. I love to push myself a little bit further each time. The effort is finally paying off. Carer I was feeling stressed anxious, and frequently tearful. I attend the relaxation sessions each week at the Centre. The breathing techniques I have learnt through my relaxation sessions have helped to dispel my stress and anxiety. By making new contacts it has allowed me to have some time for myself through activities whereby the “cared for” goes on day outings away from their Carers. This has helped me to enjoy myself and relax. Member with MS When I was first diagnosed I didn’t want to think about my condition. I was very reluctant to accept that I needed support but as I got to know more people at the Neuro Therapy Centre, I even started to look forward to my visits. The exercises are really helping me to manage my condition and I do the schedule of exercises recommended at home religiously as I can see what a difference it is making. At the Centre I take part in the individual and group physio sessions and I also use the gym two to three times a week. If I hadn’t taken part in the therapies here I know my condition would be worse and I know that the more I help myself, the better I will be. The Centre is a friendly place with advice and support always on hand when you need it. From the kitchen staff through to the professional physios – they are all happy to help. Experience of the gym and fitness suite I felt tired and generally fatigued before I started using the gym. I had to slowly increase the amount I attended the gym over several months. I now go 3 times a week and enjoy myself every single time. It’s not just the exercise I look forward to, I like to meet with others in the gym. I feel more alert and sleep better at night. I believe that regular exercise makes it easier to cope with many of the problems arising from my condition. The socialisation that comes along with it has been great for my confidence too.
