It’s the time of year when thoughts turn to taking breaks, whether it's a holiday or a trip out. It’s always difficult to decide where to go, but if we need accessible accommodation and disability friendly places to visit, it can limit our choices.

So we’ve put together some information for you, some ideas about places to visit, companies that support people with mobility problems and travel advice from supporting organisations. Of course, if you’ve got any questions about the accessibility of a particular place, always contact them to ask advice and let them know about any special requirements you might have.

Days Out

If you’re planning a day out in the UK, there are lots of places to go, and it’s great that many organisations are now focussing on accessibility to ensure we can all enjoy the destinations.

The RSPB has some wonderful sites for viewing birds and nature, and each of their individual reserves have details of accessibility on the relevant pages.  Our nearest reserve, Burton Mere on the Wirral, is a wonderful place to go, and has amazing accessible paths and hides. In North Wales, RSPB Conwy is a lovely place to visit, wheelchair accessible and handy for the A55.

The National Trust also gives details of accessibility on their sites, with a dedicated page for people with disabilities and limited mobility.

The Wales Coast Path is a fabulous way to see the coastline, and they’ve put together lots of information to make sure everyone is able to access the paths.

Chester is a lovely city, and if you’ve got friends visiting, there are lots of places to go.  This website is really useful as a resource for planning a visit.

Travel Blogs

Lots of good advice comes from people who have disabilities themselves.   Here are a couple of recommended websites.

Carers need some breathing space too

If you're a Carer and you need a break, there are organisations that can support and help you organise some respite. If you're in North Wales, NEWCIS is your first stop for support, and if you're in Warrington or Cheshire, contact https://cheshireandwarringtoncarers.org/

Share your experiences

If you’ve been somewhere that you’ve found to be accessible, a hotel or restaurant that has been helpful, perhaps or a place that provides good facilities for people with mobility problems, then please do let us know and we’ll add it to our list or why not add it as a comment below?

Have a good holiday and send us your snaps!
