In light of current government advice our Trustees have been reviewing our planned re-opening of the Centre.

This has not been an easy decision, but due to the escalating nature of the pandemic and the advice for people with long-term conditions to self-isolate for 12 weeks from 23rd March, the decision has been made to respect that advice to protect our members. Thereby the Centre will now not re-open until Monday 15th June 2020, subject to further/emerging government guidelines.

The team have been working hard in the background to develop support measures that will help you during this time.

These will include:

  • Providing telephone advice, support and regular contact over the telephone.
  • Developing exercise support over the telephone and through online services such as video conferencing, our facebook and twitter accounts and our website.
  • Continuing our Member News to provide advice, support and communication
  • Developing dedicated pages on our website around advice on self-isolating and Covid-19.
  • Utilising our blog on our website to provide advice, exercise and therapies that can be taken at home, and much more.
  • Carrying out telephone counselling sessions.

We are also aiming to develop a similar package of support for people currently on our Access to Exercise programme who are currently unable to access services through Brio Leisure.

We have started some of this support already; and our fundraising team have submitted funding bids for areas where we need additional resources to fulfil some of these aims – we should hear about these very soon.

As you can imagine the current situation will put greater financial strain on the Centre, as we have also had to cancel our future fundraising events over the coming months. We have set up an emergency appeal on our website – if you would like to make a donation for any services you are using, or your friends or family would like to make a donation; we would be very grateful.

We have also taken the decision to start our membership renewal process in June instead of this month.

The Centre telephone number has been diverted to a mobile, so if you need to get in touch with us you can still call the usual centre number of 01244 678619.

We will continue to respond to government advice over the coming months and we will be in regular contact with you should we need to revise our re-opening date at any point.

Thank you for your patience, we know this isn’t an easy time and that self-isolating is difficult but we hope that the support measures that we are putting in place will go some way to ease the situation, and thank you, too, to everyone that has given us positive feedback to date on the support and exercises at home that we have provided already. This has been a great boost to the team.
